Meghan + Buddy | The Ivy Place

When speaking about each other, both Meghan and Buddy Mitchell are beautifully honest and thoughtful, acknowledging that they complement each other and subconsciously acknowledging how they support each other.  “Meghan is laidback; she’s never flustered, and she keeps me in line,” Buddy says. “Buddy has my back; he’s loyal and rational; he thinks things through,” Meghan says. “I can tell he thinks, ‘How can I make Meghan happy?’

Their story starts five years ago. Meghan Harvey graduated from the University of South Carolina in May of 2012; not long after that, the Richmond, VA native moved to Charlotte to start an internship at a sports marketing firm. It was there that she met Buddy Mitchell.

The two sat next to each other during the workday; then, started spending time together at happy hours after work; then, hanging out together after happy hours. “I asked her out,” Buddy remembers. “But, she said she didn’t want to complicate it with work.” Both laugh as neither can recall their exact first date. They dated for three years before two important purchases in early 2016: Buddy bought an engagement ring; and they bought their first home together.

On April 24, 2016, the couple was on their way home to Charlotte from a best friend’s wedding in Athens, Georgia; Buddy suggested they return home, change clothes, and drive over to the new house to see the latest renovation – the hardwood floors had just been redone.  Meghan passed on changing clothes. Wearing the same t-shirt and gym shorts she wore on the drive home earlier that day, she walked into the new house and spotted a ring box and a GoPro camera sitting on the mantle; a friend had been to the home earlier to set up the equipment to film their engagement.

Meghan said yes. “We’ll always have that memory in the house,” she shares.

The couple was married by a priest at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church on Thursday, June 22, 2017 with a ceremony and guests to follow at The Ivy Place in Lancaster, South Carolina on Saturday, June 24, 2017. Unfortunately, the deacon who was to conduct Saturday’s didn’t show that morning; Meghan’s brother improvised, leading the ceremony and blessing the couple in front of family and friends.

What followed was a beautiful reception with the couple’s closest friends and family; reflecting on the evening, Meghan and Buddy note just what a ‘fun group’ it was. “Everyone just seemed so happy,” Meghan shares. “And when everyone is happy, we’re happy.”

What brings this couple great happiness? “Not a day goes by that we aren’t laughing,” Meghan shares.
